The Year 3 Team

It is with great pride that we can look back at the many achievements of our students. They have worked so hard, and managed very well with every demand for change from a new and challenging curriculum. The many values that have been on display throughout the year have particularly come to the fore: resilience when tackling a particularly tricky problem whether it is in class or a problem between friends; courage in coping with changes; honesty towards all members of the school community; appreciation and happiness for each other and all the opportunities they are given within the school – which all strengthen their character and their ability to make the most of every aspect of school life.

This Term our focus for Science has been Biological Sciences. We have been looking at Living and Non-Living things, learning about the different features of living things and their different groupings and classifications. On our excursion to the Werribee Open Range Zoo we learnt about the structural features of carnivores, herbivores and omnivores also showing us how to tell the difference between a predator and prey. Also going on safari tour to show different animals in their habitats.

Students have been focusing on Poetry this term for Literacy, looking at the structure of different types of poems and the different figurative language techniques they could use to make their poems more interesting and fun. Students have been very creative making their very own poetry booklets.

In Numeracy, students have been looking at using different techniques to solve worded problems, 2D and 3D shapes and the different features of these shapes and how to find the area of a shape. They have also been looking at Chance and Probability.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff for their hard work this year. It has been a year of changes and they have embraced this with goodwill and continued to provide the best education for our students.

We would also like to thank all parents and carers for their support this year. A great deal of what we do in school cannot be achieved without you and your co-operation and backing. Many thanks.

Finally, we would like to wish all students who are leaving us at the end of this academic year all the very best on their journey. We know that they have all had a great time here at Sirius College and know that they will go on to achieve great things in the future. Have a wonderful summer holiday and we look forward to seeing you all again in the future.
